GENERAL SERVICING & REPAIRS

A general service includes a full strip down of all keywork, inspection and replacement of degraded springs, corks, felts and pads. Cleaning the body and keys, re assembly, re regulation and lubrication of the mechanism and full testing.

If the instrument requires more than three or four pads replacing there will be an additional material and labour cost.

Polishing keywork and bodies of larger instruments is also available at additional cost.

Repairs

All repairs can be covered but by the individual nature of damage, the instrument will have to be accessed first to be able to quote for the repair.

KEYWORK MODIFICATIONS

Keywork that doesn’t fit fingers well makes any instrument much more difficult to play! I can convert any keywork to fit more comfortably or design additional keys to order. This could also include adding keywork for alternate fingerings and extra tone holes to increase the range of the instrument.

Bassoon Crooks

Likewise, a bassoon crook that is uncomfortable to play will detract from the music. I re-profile crooks to owners templates and also repair and re solder split seams.

Couriered Instruments

By prior arrangement, I am happy to receive instruments for repair by post although I would recommend taking out insurance to cover particularly valuable instruments.

TRUE TO TRADITION

OVER 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

I started in the woodwind making and repairing business in 1978 and since that time I’ve encountered almost every type of instrument and every kind of repair. I have specialised in key making and key conversions on professional Oboes, Cor Anglais and Bassoons for the greater part of my career but I believe that student instruments are really important too and that it is vital that that students don’t lose enthusiasm or become disenchanted because of a faulty instrument. I’m happy to set up a student instrument to play as well as it can.
